Terminal3-Beijing's New Airport Terminal

China is to launch its newest airport on Friday 29th Febraury 2008 in Beijing. Actually Beijing Airport has two terminals already- Terminal -1,which was opened in the 1959 and Terminal -2, which was opened in 1999.Since the air traffic in China is increasingly continuously they decided to construct a new terminal. And moreover Olympics is to be held in China this year so they expect a large air traffic.

The plan for constructing the terminal was proposed in 2004 and they completed the entire project in 4 years(If India would have taken up a similar project may be they would have taken another 40 years, because of the protest raised against a construction like this).

They have named this new terminal as Terminal-3. Beijing is less than 15 minutes away from this place. This increase in the size of the airport makes Beijing Airport to reach the top five globally accesed airports.

Its architecture is designed by Lord Norman Foster and it was built by a British based company called Arup. Its entire ground area is about 10 million square feet i.e. 170 football fields. It is second largest building next to Aalsmeer flower auction house in Amsterdam. The cost of constructing this new Terminal is a whooping 2.7 Billion Dollar.

China has planned to increase its number of airports from 142 to 239 by 2020 (hmmm this kind of acheivement would be only a dream in India). In mean time Beijing authorities have started to
search for a new place to construct a larger airport by 2015.
